Our summertime activities continue to center around this fabulous northwest weather. So, every opportunity we have, we find ourselves plopped down by the river or lake with our new found fishing hobby. Silas still loves throwing rocks in the water more than anything else (particularly on those trips when we don't catch any fish), and I wouldn't go so far as to say having him with us keeps fishing to the relaxing sport it is known to be, but we enjoy our time together and with friends and certainly soaking up the sunshine. Below is Silas with our friend Chris (who works with Jordan). On this particular trip Chris let Silas help him reel in his line several times, and keep an eye on the pole to make sure the fish didn't pull it into the water. We didn't have to worry about that in the long run since we barely got a bite that day, but being involved was right up Silas' ally. Sitting next to Chris is a green and yellow toy (actually meant to be a tape measure of sorts) that makes noise when you pull it back and forth. Silas thinks this is his fishing pole and pretends to cast it out into the water and then lean back as though he has such a huge fish he can hardly hold the weight while saying "reel it in, reel it in!"
I am not one for indulging, and I do encourage the usage of imagination, but while I was at the Dollar Store last week I found this little magnetic fishing pole. We tried it out this morning in his pool, and it was a big hit.
AND, you are pretty much guaranteed a catch...which is preferable to every 2 year old.
So for now, our little Silas is a fisher of fish and toys...we are praying that one day he will become a fisher of men and have even more joy when he "catches" souls for his Savior.
