I found real boxers in his size! I got them at Walmart when we were in Spokane with my cousin Callie and her kids. They only came in a pack of two and I didn't know if he'd be as crazy about them as I was so I only got one pack. Well, now all he wants to wear is his "boxes" so he can match his Dad!!
See how happy they make him? Is that a little bicep muscle I detect??
Still working on the six pack...
And of course, check out the cute face shots
He is getting so big and really making his was toward being a three year old. In the last few months his vocabulary has increased so much that I rarely find myself trying to simplify terms for him any more, he picks up meaning in regular conversation. Of course he still gets mixed up now and again, which generally makes for some pretty hysterical interactions.
He says: Hmmmm, that's interesting.
I am so ashamed! (Thank you Thomas)
Oh Jewel, don't fuss, don't fuss.
What the heck? (which is surprisingly harsh coming from the mouth of a 2 year old)
Guys, it's not funny! (Yes, he refers to Jordan and I as "guys", which is funny and only causes more laughter).
Last week he said something to me and I didn't hear him, so I asked him the question again. He repeated his answer and then said "Did you get that, Mom? Comprendo???" Nothing like bilingual sassy-ness, I think we can thank our cousin Colby for this terminology.
Jordan took him to the bathroom for the 80th time AFTER he had been put to bed and on their way back to Silas' room Jordan said, "Silas, it's late, you really need to go to sleep." Without skipping a beat Silas whips around and says "No, YOU need to go to sleep!" with the pointer finger in the face and all. Seriously, where do kids get the guts for this stuff? Can they not see they are HALF the size of their parents???
I think I shared before that we have been memorizing verses together, and we all know about the Thomas book memorization. Well, we have a Thomas book called "The Special Delivery" that Silas loves to read. So we were practicing our verses and I got him started on one...
Me: "God's word" pause
Silas: "God's word"
Me: "always" pause
Silas: "always...delivers...a special delivery."
Me: Um, yes, it does.
Our verse is actually "God's word always proves right and true," but his version is also true. We call this Thomasology.
The book memorizing is stretching to new authors and topics. We go to the library frequently to get some literary variety (AKA, we need a break from the books we have here that we read 100 times a day). So if I get a pile of books, there is a good chance I will read some that Jordan won't get to before they are returned. So last night after Jordan put Silas to bed be came down stairs with a concerned look on his face. Every night we "talk about it" with Silas, which is basically his chance to engage us in uninterrupted conversation about whatever he is thinking about. It has a ton of range and usually has something to do with the days' activities. Well on that night Silas had asked Jordan what would happen if he found a baby bird and brought it home. This wasn't totally in left field because they had seen a baby bird on their walk earlier in the day. But he continued on about making a home for it (which was weird since the bird they saw was dead) and keeping it for a while. Then he just said "But Dad, birds are meant to fly." And that was the end of it. Well, Jordan has missed our baby bird story from the library, which Silas had pretty much summarized for him including the verbatim line above, so it was a little confusing to him and hysterical to me to watch Jordan tell the story.
Silas also asks me "are you sure?" any time I ask him to do anything. "Silas, get in your chair it's time to eat." "Are you sure, Mom?" "Yes, I am sure." "OKaaay, if you are sure."
I have a feeling that 3 is going to be a whole new ball game for us. Two was very fun and innocent. He gave us some trouble, but it was mostly just testing boundaries here and there. We have recently seen more tricky disobedience. He is getting crafty and more willful. I asked him to get into bed the other night and he continued to play on the floor. When I asked him a second time, a little more firmly, he replied with total teen attitude, "I was just about to, sheesh." It's amazing how you can watch the innocence slipping away, right before your eyes. So, if you see me on Nanny 911 in the near future, don't be surprised. Of course when I am at the end of my rope, he fixes everything when he comes to me with arms lifted and asks to be snuggled for a while. Ahhhh, much better.
